The Southwest Cross Country Leadership Retreat 2002

Another year on the leadership retreat with a few constants and changes came the weekend of the 26th of July, just before the beginning of Captain's practice for Southwest's Cross Country team. This year there were thousands of bugs and several athletes on the trip. The first night the runners stayed at the cabin of Laura Berskow, enjoying swimming in the lake and such before sitting down and listening to Zhao's annual speech about leadership, stressing the importance of being a well rounded person and the relationships between males and females in our society. The next morning, after getting a little bit of sleep, some of the athletes participated in a time trial on the gravel road. While normally participating in the "Village Inn 5K Give or Take a K Fun Run," we skipped it this year due to increased entry fee. The conditions seemed slow, and then to the surprise of some, the times seemed slow as well, but it was mostly just for fun. The runners then went camping another night before heading back to the city to get away from the thousands of vicious bugs.
